Hopcat is calling this the largest all Indiana beer takeover – ever.

When the massive beer bar opens Aug. 16 in Broad Ripple, all 130 kegs on tap will feature Hoosier craft brews.

That’s the first time that many Indiana beers have been served in one place at one time, said Mark Sellers, HopCat founder.

And it gives customers a chance to “experience the incredible variety, artistry and creativity within Indiana’s craft brewing community,” he said.

HopCat, which is consistently ranked among the top bars in the U.S, is opening its first location outside of its home state of Michigan after noting the growing craft beer scene in Indiana, Sellers said.

After opening day, the bar at 6280 N. College Ave., will still have 130 taps. But half of the craft beers will come from around the country and world, places such as California, Colorado, Germany, Belgium and Denmark. The other half will be local.

The focal point of the 9,600-square-foot establishment, which also has family friendly dining, is the kegs. Windows on the street and inside the restaurant let guests see the complex system that keeps those 130 kegs fresh.

HopCat will be located on the ground floor of the Broad Ripple Parking Garage and Shoppes. The bar will feature outdoor seating.

As for the menu? Well the eatery describes it like this: “Food your mom would make if she loved beer.”

Among the most popular menu items is the Crack Fries, which are said to be addictive and can be bought by the pound or loaded.

The first 200 customers to show up at the 11 a.m. opening in August will receive a free order of crack fries every week for a year.
