Vine & Table Presents: A Barrel To Arms

Finally, the day has arrived: our third collaboration with Books & Brews is ready to see the light of day. We have spent weeks agonizing and performing quality control (i.e., tasting!) to ensure that this would be our best brew yet. Let me tell you, the wait was certainly worth it. “A Barrel To Arms” is a malty Scotch Ale aged in our hand-picked Knob Creek Bourbon Barrel until the flavors were just right. Sweet Bourbon and light oak blend with the rich ale for a brew of pure majesty.

Please join us, alongside brewer and Books & Brews owner Jason Wuerfel, on Saturday, March 21st from 12-3 as we celebrate and deconstruct this fine ale. Keep in mind that this is a custom, hand-crafted beer, so when the bombers are gone, they’re gone for good. Get ’em while they last…

This is a FREE event, but we do ask that you register so we can be sure to have plenty of samples on hand.

Dave says - This beer is everything we could have hoped for. It pours a deep, almost opaque mahogany, with a light mocha colored head. On the nose expect to find abundant notes of brown sugar, vanilla and dark fruits blended with the telltale sweet booziness of the bourbon. Bourbon really takes a starring role in the flavor profile without overpowering the rich malty ale base. This beer is pleasantly warming without any real burn and just a touch of oaky barrel. This carries my highest recommendation.

Zach says - From the first sniff, you get a rich, warm feeling from this Scottish Ale. It brings to mind your favorite aunt’s “adults-only” rum cake, but with the rum swapped out with sweet, warming bourbon. The first taste shows that your nose was on the right track; you get cakey bread with tons of vanilla, caramel, and a hint of dark fruit. The bourbon and the barrel it came in make themselves readily known, with a bit of well-worn oak and an alcohol presence that grabs your throat with a tickle rather than a burn. It’s easy to see how the folks down in Kentucky have created such a powerful mythos about their native spirit – bourbon really is magic.
