After losing access to Sun King Brewing’s beers a little over a year ago, Northern Indiana is finally getting their beers back.

Sun King is set to request final city approval to install three new fermentation tanks and a 1,200-square-foot addition to their Downtown Indianapolis facility, according to the Indianapolis Business Journal. The new tanks will allow the brewery to increase their yearly production from 30,000 to 55,000 barrels. Increased production will allow Sun King to begin distributing throughout the entire state, once again, this year.

All of this was made possible last May, when Governor Mike Pence signed into law Senate Bill 297. Bill 297 allows small breweries in Indiana to produce, and distribute within state, triple the original maximum of 30,000 barrels. Breweries will be allowed to self-distribute up to 30,000 barrels and anything more will need to go through a wholesaler.

Back in 2014, Sun King edged close to the original 30,000 barrel production cap. They were forced to cut ties with Monarch Beverage, North Vernon Beverage, and Indiana Beverage and ceased distribution in Northern and Southern Indiana. In early 2015, Sun King teamed with 3 Floyds Brewing Co. to lobby for an increase in the production cap, which turned into Senate Bill 297.

As of now, Indiana Beverage and Five Star Distribution will handle distribution in Northern Indiana for Sun King, while Monarch Beverage will handle distribution in Central and Southern Indiana.
