Cousin Eddie Day at Black Dog Brewing: It’s a Good Quality Item

Cousin Eddie Day at Black Dog Brewing: It’s a Good Quality Item

by Mark E. Lasbury for Indiana On Tap

We’ve entered the holiday season, with all kinds of events celebrating different types of celebrations and gatherings. We’re used to the different Thanksgiving events, with turkey trots and communal dinners. We know Christmas with all the company parties and Santa’s arrival events. But what we really need is a celebration of the true hero of the season, the reason for all this celebration -– Cousin Eddie.

On Dec. 4th (may the farce be with you) from 1-10pm is the official jubilee for all things Eddie at Black Dog Brewing in Mooresville (11230 N SR 67, Mooresville, IN). There’ll be food and fun, beer and buffoonery, and of course the movie Christmas Vacation will be on a loop from open to close. The fun will be held inside the taproom, but the huge patio will be open if the weather is nice, and this will give enough room for all the Cousin Eddie fans to come out and celebrate.

Black Dog Brewing owner Jeremy Kuntz talked about the growth of this event, “This is our second year but the first year it just sort of exploded and we didn’t really think it would. It was mostly something we started for ourselves because we like the movie so much. We think everyone has a little Cousin Eddie in them.”

One of the highlights of the day will be the release of Cousin Eddie’s Blackberry Ale. This beer is just like Cousin Eddie himself – kind of fruity, likely to leave a dark stain somewhere, and yet kinda sweet underneath it all. You’ll be able to get Cousin Eddie on draft, but also in cans for the first time. There will be many more Black Dog beers on tap that day, so if a blackberry ale doesn’t do it for you, the IPAs, pastry stouts and pales ales will.

To go along with all the great beer, the Black Dog Kitchen will be open for pretzels and cheese, other dishes, and will feature…. Cousin Eddie’s Weiners all day. That will make it easy to stick around long enough to memorize the best lines of what has to be deemed a Christmas classic. Staying to drink and eat will also let you see all the great monstrosities entered in the ugly sweater contest and allow you to argue about why yours is uglier. I hope like heck that I’m not the only person there with a white sweater and a black dickie.

Going along with all that great beer, food and activities, there will also be live music and a DJ during the afternoon and evening. Austin James will play from 4-7pm, he’s an eclectic artist who will be doing everything from blues to country to singer/songwriter. Before and after Austin, DJ Love will be mixing music in the taproom.

Thanksgiving may be the beginning of the holiday season, but the holidays might be said to really kick in with Cousin Eddie Day at Black Dog. Pile in the family truckster, and burn dust/eat rubber to bring your family and friends to Black Dog. Gather your loved ones around the bar for a great day of holiday cheer. “Nobody’s walking out on this fun ol’ fashioned family Christmas!”
