5 Beer Podcasts You Should Be Listening To

Podcasting has become a huge industry, allowing anyone to create a virtual radio show. Moreover, no topic is off limits. As craft beer production and sales have risen, so have the number of podcasts related to the beer industry. However, not all podcasts are made equally, but these are five beer podcasts you should be listening to.

Good Beer Hunting

Two years and 79 episodes later, Good Beer Hunting has become one of the best beer podcasts on the market. Every other week they bring you a fantastic interview with “founders, brewers, aficionados, and keepers of the craft from all walks of life.”

It is a professionally made show, meaning it is always top notch. They also interview legends in the brewing world, including names like Jim Koch, John Laffler, and Indiana’s own Drew Fox.

Craft Beer Radio

This show started in 2005, during the early years of podcasting. Two friends, Jeff Bearer and Greg Weiss, do a weekly show where they sample five to six beers and provide commentary on them. They do this all from their basement studio.

After 379 episodes, the duo has locked down the format and don’t have much filler. Each show is very informative, and whether you are new to craft beer or an old vet, there is plenty to learn from this show.

MicroBrewr

The podcast went on hiatus in November 2015 after showrunner Nathan Pierce landed a new full-time job that took him to San Francisco. However, the 90 episode series gives listeners an inside look into starting a brewery or cidery.

Since 2014, Pierce has interviewed various people in the beer industry. They covered topics like contract brewing, trademark issues, marketing, and creating a business plan. If starting a brewery has crossed your mind, then give MicroBrewr a listen.

Craft Beer Culture

Hosts Patrick and Josh created a podcast to talk beer news. Instead of giving in-depth beer reviews, they discuss what is happening in the beer industry like two guys sitting at a bar might do. From craft beer buyouts to discussing the major beer competitions, Craft Beer Culture has you covered.

It is a fun show, and they do not take themselves too serious. There are only 26 episodes, and they do not have a set release schedule, but it is well worth subscribing to.

TheSpeakPodcast

Pete, Rob, and Adam started TheSpeakPodcast – yes, all one word – back in 2014. Each show they review Indiana beer or spirits. Their studio is setup in one of the host’s living room, but they will take the show on the road and record live from an Indiana brewery.

Just like Craft Beer Culture, the guys of TheSpeakPodcast do not take themselves seriously, which keeps the show light and funny. If you are looking for a craft beer podcast that features more Indiana breweries, then TheSpeakPodcast is for you.

*I should note I was on an episode of TheSpeakPodcast but was a fan well before then.

Obligatory Mention – Indiana on Tap Podcast

We can not write an article about podcasts without mentioning our own. Adam Schick conducts interviews with local Indiana members of the beer community, discusses the latest beer news, and talks about topics like best brewery patios in the state. He is nine episodes in, so catch up by listening to the show or watching it on YouTube.

There are plenty of beer podcasts out there that we did not mention. Tell us what some of your favorites are in the comments.
