05 Jul 10 Easily Accessible Indiana Beers Out-of-Towners Should Try
Nationally, Indiana is still seen as being in the infancy stage of craft brewing. I believe a big part of the reason is there are only a handful of Hoosier beers readily available outside of our state. I have seen Three Floyds, Upland, Tin Man, and a few others outside of Indiana in my travels. While they are all top notch breweries, there are many more breweries in our state brewing amazing beer!
The trade forums are full of requests for Indiana beer, but most of the requests are for the same brews. When I make trades I like to throw in a beer or two that wasn’t requested. A beer I have in my cellar or fridge that’s not as well known as some others. Central State’s Lazer Raptor, Flat 12’s Pickle Barrel, and Scarlet Lane’s Dorian Stout are a few beers that have made the trek out of state. To date, I have not received any negative feedback on brews I have included, and I always ask.
I have compiled a list of 10 readily available Indiana beers every out-of-town beer nerd should try. These are not rare or one-off beers. This list is comprised of beers that can be found on a regular basis either at the liquor store, brewery, or brewpub. There are so many choices and I could have easily made this list much longer. I narrowed it down with some scientific processes and in some cases the flip of a coin…ok, there was no coin, and the processes included drinking beer.
This is my list of beers and I am certain it will be different than yours. That is the beauty of craft beer, we can agree to disagree and still enjoy the conversation. Create your own list and let’s discuss them over a few beers!
Keep drinking great beer and talking about it; I know I will!
