30 Oct A Tale of Two Oktoberfests
Prost! On Saturday, September 27th, I enjoyed a lovely afternoon at the Upland Oktoberfest with a three liter bier! The crowd was lively, the bands were great, and Upland provided three of their amazing beers; Oktoberfest, Dragonfly IPA, and Champagne Velvet
It was a great crowd this year in historic Military Park in downtown Indianapolis. We saw some some traditional German Octoberfest outfits today. I always enjoy the lederhosen this time of year! Military Park was certainly transformed into Indy’s own Bavarian bier garden with lots of food choices from some of city’s favorite food trucks. My favorites were Cutie Pies Pizza and seasonally perfect Der Pretzel Wagon.
This was the second year I’ve enjoyed the Upland Indianapolis Oktoberfest and will certainly not be the last! Maybe next year I’ll wear my own lederhosen!
Qauff ON! Brewing, Big Woods Brewery and Quaff ON! Bloomington played host to a new Oktoberfest event this year at the Bill Monroe Music Park & Campground in Brown County on Friday September 19th and Saturday September 20th. With plenty of room, lots of options, and quality food and beer, be sure to put Quaftoberfest on your event calender for 2015!
After fighting Nashville, congested with leaf gawkers, the openness and breezes of the campground was just what this beer drinker needed to enjoy fall and the great craft beers it brings.
As with most new events, kickoff Friday was a little slow, but that was more than made up for by
great BBQ, cheese fries and killer, from-scratch corn dogs. Hello?! I met both old and new friends
and family and enjoyed just being lazy, sitting on a log! The people watching was great. We watched festival attendees throw bags, play croquette and a giant Jenga game.
And we also tried a lot of great beer! I drank Bourbon Busted Knuckle, my old stand by. I love that it’s aged in Spring Mill Bourbon barrels, another Indiana favorite. I also had an Escape to Colorado IPA from Epic Brewing. Even though I’m not the biggest IPA fan, I knew it wouldn’t disappoint. Everything I’ve tried from Epic Brewing has been excellent! Repeatedly though, I kept coming back to the Evil Czech Brewery‘s Gypsy Chamomile Wheat. It’s a perfectly fit for cool Autumn evenings.
Hope to see you all at Quafftoberfest 2015!
