Sun King Brewery makes award winning beer and those awards continue to roll in. FoodandWine.com recently announced Sun King makes the best lager in Indiana.
When one thinks of lager beer, images of Budweiser and other macro beers immediately come to mind, but craft breweries are stepping up to the plate and making lagers that actually taste good.
Food & Wine put together a list of the best lager from each state. Sun King’s Afternoon Delight was announced as the best lager in Indiana and just to rub it in, Urban Chestnut’s Zwickel won the honor for Missouri, which happens to be the home of Anheuser-Busch.
Afternoon Delight is part of Sun King’s barrel aged series, King’s reserve, and is the barrel-aged version of their Dominator Dopplebock. The Dopplebock provides the brown sugar and molasses aromas, while the bourbon barrels provide the sweet flavors of vanilla and oak.
This isn’t the first time Afternoon Delight has been given an honor or won an award. It took home a gold medal in 2012 at the Festival of Barrel Aged Beer in the Barrel Aged Classic Style category. Then in 2013, it once again won the gold medal at the Festival of Barrel Aged Beer and It won a gold medal in the Wood and Barrel-Aged Strong Beer category in the Great American Beer Festival.
