Flat12 Bierwerks officially kicked-off IndyCar racing season with their Hinchtown Hammerdown Can Prix on April 2. The event marked the  release of Hinchtown Hammerdown, a limited-edition, pilsner-style beer brewed in partnership with Verizon IndyCar Series driver, James Hinchcliffe.

Despite the chilly blustery conditions, local craft beer celebrities squared off in a trike race in the courtyard of the Flat12 taproom located at 414 Dorman Street in Indianapolis.

Indiana on Tap’s own Adam Schick, Drew Ogborn and Tyler McCord competed in the races. Despite the treacherous conditions and the ferocious racing they represented Indiana on Tap well. I won’t go into details but the three failed to make the finals. The good news in the craft beer world is, though, there will always be more beer events to participate in!  Probably more importantly, no one got hurt.

This reporter found the Hinchtown Hammerdown pilsner to be clean and refreshing and very enjoyable, and this is coming from a hophead. I would greatly encourage everyone to give it a try and toast James Hinchcliffe’s return to IndyCar after his crash last year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
