St. Benedict’s Brew Works Receives Zoning Approval in Ferdinand

A possible brewery on the grounds of Monastery Immaculate Conception is one step closer to pouring its first pint.

St. Benedict’s Brew Works, to be run by local brewers Vince Luecke of New Boston and Andy Hedinger of St. Meinrad, is in discussions with the Sisters of St. Benedict to lease a former art studio on the monastery grounds in Ferdinand. Luecke and Hedinger will use the vacant building to run a microbrewery with a tasting room. In order to do so, the property zoned as agriculture had to be rezoned with a special exception for the business.

The special exception was approved by a vote of 4-0.  Luecke and Hedinger are still negotiating lease terms with the Sister of St. Benedict. If everything goes according to plan, they hope to be open in late spring or early summer of 2015. The monastery, founded in 1867, is located at 802 E 10th St. in Ferdinad and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places.
