22 Sep South Bend Brew Werks Open For Business
The brewpub craze has made its way to South Bend!
After two years of planning, South Bend Brew Werks officially opened for business this weekend. The triple line brewery and restaurant in downtown South Bend is dedicated to building a stronger community, one brew at a time.
Owners said reviews were positive opening weekend. Their goal was to fill a void for a locally grown, small-scale eatery. Brew Werks uses local produce from the Farmers Market and Purple Porch Co-op with the goal of developing downtown businesses and area farmers. Their self-proclaimed “culinary ninja” in charge of the menu designed one that compliments their self-brew creations, which means a lot of cheese, some brew noodles, and everything else a beer-lover would want.
Greg Wisinski, the man behind the menu, says, “A lot of places they have these four page menus and they try to serve…they’ll make a spaghetti, taco and a hamburger, i wanted to do a smaller menu. Do a few items really, really well and then change them. Once i run out of them, it comes off the menu and a new item goes on there. It keeps it fresh, people aren’t going to get tired of it. We’ll always be changing with seasons.”
Andrew Elegante, one of Brew Werks’ managing partners adds, “It’s so exciting to get something finally all the way done, it’s been a ton of work–the work at the state was great too–but just to see that vision realized, to be like “wow we really did this” that’s phenomenal and really exciting.”
Fifty cents of every pint sold goes towards community building partners including The Music Village and Neighborhood Resources Connection.
Regular hours for Brew Werks begin Tuesday.
