We got a sneak peek inside the new South Bend Brew Werks, located at 216 S. Michigan St. in South Bend.

The brewery is planning a preview event this Saturday, Aug. 16. They plan to have a beer garden set up outside where people can sample 5 Brew Werks beers, with the purchase of a logo glass for $10. They will also have samples of their farm to fork (locally grown and harvested) menu available for $5.

“It’s a great place, they’re using a lot of sustainability products,” said Scherpenberg. The chairs, for example, are old school chairs.

Due to a few delays and setbacks South Bend Brew Werks is still working on a grand opening date but it will be soon. The mug club mugs are made by a local artist and are larger than the regular glasses. Mug club members will get dibs on experimental taps, discounts on merchandise and invitations to exclusive events.

For every pint of beer sold, South Bend Brew Werks will donate 50 cents to three local organizations: The Music Village, Neighbor Resources Connection or LaCasa de Amistad. The owner, Andrew Elegante, says he and his crew believe in sustainability and community. The pub is built with reclaimed resources from the floors to the walls.
