02 Oct Scarlet Lane Brewing’s Grand Opening Celebration: A Lesson in How to Master the Figurative and Literal Beer Buzz
Scarlet Lane Brewing Company officially launched in May of this last year. They’ve made a significant splash into the Indiana beer scene and they’ve clearly made an impact in the community surrounding McCordsville – which is where their massive brewery is located. So much so, in fact, that the Fortville/McCordsville Chamber approached them about hosting a Grand Opening & VIP Brewfest to celebrate.
In only a few short months after their official launch, you’ll be hard pressed to find an Indiana beer fan who isn’t familiar with their Dorian Stout – Scarlet Lane’s rotating flagship beer. Soon after entering the brewery & growler house during the Brewfest, “Dorian” flew from my mouth, (in words…not the actual beer itself) and I was rewarded with a pint in hand. This night was starting swimmingly!
Upon first swallow, missing was the familiar coconut taste, as this was straight Dorian. For those concerned, don’t be – this is by design. Joel Bozman, Indiana On Tap Content Strategist, and I agreed – this version of Dorian is quite fantastic as well. Keep a look out as Scarlet Lane intends to continue rotating the Dorian variety they offer.
Let us not forget about the award-winning Vivian Red IPA – this unique beer was enjoyed by many of the patrons as well. I didn’t personally have one on this night, as I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy it many times before. Fortunately, it can be found all over the central part of the state (and beyond) at your favorite watering holes.
Instead, I tried the Saison de Silas for the first time and had a pint of the McCordsville Pale Ale. The friends, family, and other guests I spoke with all seemed to try one of each as well. The feedback I overheard was overwhelmingly positive, and I heard comments including “my favorite,” “one of their best,” and “incredible.” There was some serious buzz revolving around the Pale Ale (literally and figuratively).
This night didn’t just have perfect weather, a friendly atmosphere, & fresh pints. It also included food from Simeri’s, live music with Cap Quirk, a viral photo booth, brew games, and some giveaways to round out the festivities. Everyone loved the photo booth, especially after their first couple of drinks. Though, I have to admit, the beer was why I came – and why I’ll be back.
Side note: Scarlet Lane’s upcoming seasonal “Katrina” will be available soon!
A special thanks to the Scarlet Lane Brewing Company team and Nancy Strickland, of the Fortville/McCordsville Chamber, for inviting the Indiana On Tap team to attend and report on the event.
