13 Dec Quaff ON! Brewing Announces Massive, Tourism-Based “Hard Truth Hills Project”
Brown County, Ind., Dec. 13, 2016 — The owners of Big Woods Brewing Co., Quaff ON! Brewing Company and Hard Truth Distilling Company announced today that they have entered into an agreement to purchase 90 acres of land in Brown County, Indiana.
The property, commonly known to local area residents as Fire Cracker Hill, consists of two undeveloped parcels along Memorial Drive and Old State Road 46 in Nashville, Ind.
The owners intend to use the property to support their brewing and distilling operations in Brown County and to create a new, tourism-oriented venue that will feature a working distillery and tasting room and related activities.
According to the company’s chairman, Jeff McCabe, the acquisition of this property represents a significant milestone for the company. “Eight years ago, Ed Ryan, Tim O’Bryan and I had an idea to build a restaurant and brewery in Nashville. Thanks to the support of our friends in this community and our fans throughout the Midwest, our business has grown each year. With the acquisition of Firecracker Hill, we are back home again and we have the opportunity to grow right here where it all started.”
The company will now embark on a process with the Town of Nashville, Brown County officials and community members to discuss plans for the property and to acquire necessary approvals for annexation by the Town of Nashville along with appropriate zoning.
“Our plan is to develop the site in a way that is consistent with the character of the community we live in,” said Ed Ryan, the company’s CEO and President. “Our vision is to maintain the natural beauty of the site as we create an accessible park-like setting for our employees and guests. We expect to accomplish the project in two phases, with the first starting in spring of 2017. We look forward to working with the community in collaborative way to bring this project to life.”
Charles “Buzz” King, Nashville’s Town Council President, is enthusiastic about the proposal, saying “We look forward to working with the Big Woods team on this exciting project. This is an opportunity to bring new jobs and new revenue to Brown County in a way that is consistent with our community’s economic development objectives. Over the last several years, Big Woods has proven to be a good partner to the Town of Nashville and the citizens of Brown County.”
Hard Truth Distillery will be the primary attraction of the property for visitors to Brown County. In keeping with that theme, the owners plan to call the property “Hard Truth Hills.”
“I can’t think of a better name than Hard Truth Hills to capture the spirit of what we’re about,” said partner Tim O’Bryan. “We’ve worked very hard over the last two years to craft recipes for our gin, rum, whiskey, bourbon, vodka and agave spirts — and the truth is, they are a worthy addition to the Indiana tradition we are crafting right here in Brown County.”
