06 Sep New Day Introduces Craft Mead Spritzers
by Mark E. Lasbury for Indiana On Tap
Coming off the recent success of the 3rd Annual Meadful Things and OutCiders Festival, New Day Craft has continued to push the envelope and is now happy to announce the release of a new line of packaged mead spritzers. These refreshing meads are perfect alone or for flavorful drinks, and they are now available at bars, stores, and the New Day tasting room.
Producers make constant efforts to expand product lines and find niches into which consumers will buy. Sometimes the impetus comes from consumer comments or suggestions, sometimes producers will riff on new products from other sources, and sometimes things come from inside the mind of a company alone. In the case of New Day mead spritzers, there was a little bit of all three involved. For example, Cardinal Spirits of Bloomington recently introduced canned cocktails made up of several variants of moscow mules, and this has gotten many people thinking.
In addition, New Day customers were crying out for more ways to get their meads, so after putting their heads together, this line of mead spritzers were the brainstorm that Tia, Brett, and Holly came up with. “With the ever-rising popularity of hard seltzers and carbonated water, we are very excited to be able to meet this market trend in a unique way, and to come in with a price point that will be very friendly to all retailers,” said Tia Agnew, co-owner of New Day Craft.
Holly Cole, sales manager for New Day added, “We are thrilled to unveil these new spritzers as there is nothing else like them in our market. No one else is doing a canned mead. They appeal to a wide variety of customers, beer and cider drinkers, but also people who are loving sparkling rose and white wine. They will also be very fun to use in cocktail recipes.”
There are three flavors, each based on a wildflower mead base fermented with the New Day house yeast. As with all New Day products, only natural ingredients are used for the Pineapple, Ginger Hibiscus, and Lavender Lemon mead spritzers. They made their unofficial debut at Meadful Things in the first week of September, but now they are available in bars, restaurants, and liquors stores in the three states in which New Day distributes (Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio).
Along with the above mentioned outlets, they will be making their debut at a series of release parties over the next few days. As posted on the New Day Facebook page, the events look like this:
