My Quest for Dorian Stout (And Other Reasons Why I love Scarlet Lane Brewing Co.)

I have been looking forward to the opening of Scarlet Lane Brewing in McCordsville for quite some time.  My first taste of their exceptional beer was at the Beer for Birds event in Castleton in May; which, by the way, was a surprisingly fun “under the radar” event.  I really enjoyed sampling (and re-sampling) the Vivian Red IPA and the Saison De Silas.  My friends and I all agreed that the Vivian was the best beer at the event.

The next time I tried their craft was at the Bastille Day festival in Fortville and again, I loved both the Vivian and Silas .  As the educated Scarlet Lane reader has probably noticed I have yet to mention their lauded Dorian Stout.  My first taste of that came at the Indiana Microbrewers Festival two weeks ago.  It was my favorite beer (amongst many great beers that I had that day).  Scarlet Lane concidentally opened their doors to their Growler House the very next day, but I wasn’t able to make it in until this past Saturday, the 26th.  I showed up at 11am (opening time on Saturday) to find their staff ready to pour samples and growler fills.  While sampling the IPA and Saison again, I was informed that a Peach Farmhouse Ale and a Pale Ale would be gracing the Indiana beer drinking public with their presence soon.  If they are anywhere near as good as the three offerings I’d had already, Indiana beer drinkers will be quite happy.

I chose to get a growler of the Saison to drink later that evening with my wife (who is very finicky and inconsistent with her taste in beer).  I figured from past experience that I would be on the hook for drinking most of the growler, which isn’t a bad thing, I promise.  Much to my surprise, my wife loved the beer too and actually drank two large tulip glasses of the Silas.  I forgot to mention the Dorian again didn’t I?  Well, they sold out Friday night so we Saturday and Sunday visitors were out of luck…until they reopened yesterday with a fresh supply.  Save one for me today…I’m on my way.
