My Bucket List Brewery: San Diego’s Green Flash

My Bucket List Brewery: San Diego’s Green Flash

According to the Brewers Association, there are now over 4000 breweries in the United States, with that number growing every time you turn around. In reality, you probably don’t have enough time to visit them all, but when asked the daring question, “If you could visit one brewery in the United States, which brewery would you visit?” the opportunities are endless.

For me, there are multiple factors that come into play when distinguishing if a brewery is top notch. I like to take in everything from the scenery, atmosphere, variety of beer, quality of beer, even the menu (yes, they have to have good food!). There are a number of these fine watering holes in Indianapolis, however my Bucket List Brewery goes far beyond the confines of Indiana.

Like, 2050 miles away far.

In San Diego lies one of my favorite breweries to this day, a little place known as Green Flash Brewery. Personally, I prefer the IPA style of beer over anything, and the fine folks at Green Flash knock it out of the park with their many varieties of IPAs (my favorite in their line is their Soul Style IPA).

In total, including their limited releases and year round beers, Green Flash offers up nearly a dozen IPA varieties, including everything from a New Zealand Dry Hop Triple IPA to an exotic Pink IPA which is used to raise awareness of Breast Cancer through the Treasure Chest fundraising program. This I find extremely interesting considering the fact that Green Flash’s co-founder Lisa Hinkley is a breast cancer survivor, and what better way of raising awareness than creating a delicious grapefruit beer and selling it for a great cause.

Another reason why Green Flash is my Bucket List Brewery is the location. I mean come on, who doesn’t want to escape the winter grip that Indiana has on us and travel to beautiful San Diego for a few days? That reason right there is enough to pack my bags (if only I had the money and the freedom.)

Everyone’s Bucket List Brewery is different. Perhaps your Bucket List Brewery is right down the street,  but when it comes to the brewery that I would most like to visit in the United States, I don’t think any brewery comes close to Green Flash when it comes to their variety, location, and quality. Cheers.
