Last night I was given a pass to the VIP opening of the expanded brewpub at Upland Brewing Company in Bloomington. The expansion includes a new kitchen with a new bar featuring 10 new taps and a growler filling station, larger bathrooms, 2 new TVs and even expanded seating.

The event was for Bad Elmers Mug Club members as well as Members of Upland’s volunteer program–known as the Upland Badassador’s. (Clever name, I agree). Beer and appetizers were provided to the VIP’s as well as t-shirts celebrating the opening. Doug Dayhoff, President of Upland, walked around talking with the VIP’s talking about the new space. As you could imagine, he’s excited for the general public to get their first look as well. Turns out that construction was still going on just minutes before the event. Fortunately for us, they finished just in time for the doors to open.  What would a grand opening be without a little last minute drama anyways?

Tonight is Upland’s Bloomington Oktoberfest celebration and Mr. Dayhoff said that the space should be open for attendees to come in and see. Next Friday will be the official Grand Opening for the general public.

One of my favorite areas of the new space is the wall of tables right next to the floor-to-ceiling windows that look into the brewery that produces Upland’s world-famous sours. So if you have the opportunity, grab a pint, sit down and if you’re lucky, you might just get to see Caleb Staton or one of the other brewers working their magic with one of Upland’s sours. Now doesn’t that sound sweet? Cheers!
