12 Oct Indiana City’s ‘Death By Pumpkin’ Release Party a Huge Success
By Andrew Dickey for Indiana On Tap
This year more breweries in Indiana are making a pumpkin ale than ever before. And why not? The pumpkin is an Indiana crop and despite a poor harvest this year, pumpkin ales are abound and with creative names. On Saturday, October 1, Indiana City threw a release party for their Death By Pumpkin Ale.
If you have not been to Indiana City, they are in their fourth year making excellent beer on Indianapolis’ near east side. They have a wonderful tap room with great beer that Death By Pumpkin is a wonderful addition to.
Unlike many pumpkin ales which only add spice to their ale, Indiana City uses real pumpkin in their mash. They also add brown sugar, cracked allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and Madagascan vanilla beans. This combination creates a very fresh flavor that I found full and well balanced. It tasted absolutely superb. From the first sip of the sample I took, I knew I was going to like this beer!
Indiana City had a party on Saturday, and the release of Death By Pumpkin was a well received. They tapped the beer at 4 o’clock and sold out of all the bottles they had on hand. If you should get to the brewery soon, you just may still find it on tap there.
If you haven’t had the beer yet, it hits stores on Friday, October 7. It’s sold in 22 ounce bombers with waxed tips. For a list of Indiana City’s retailers, visit their website.
I am a fan of pumpkin beers and drink them for at least six weeks every year. We have a lot of great pumpkin ales to choose from here in Indiana, but if you get a chance, I definitely recommend trying Indiana City’s Death By Pumpkin. It’s among the best of the best.
