23 Apr Grand Junction Brewing Co. – A grand success for a Grand Opening
Westfield, IN - Grand Junction Brewing Co. (GJB) opened their doors on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11am. While the city of Westfield is in the midst of a major downtown revitalization, the addition of a new brewery is what has us most excited. And based on the impressive crowd that they drew, we’re not the only ones to share that sentiment.
Co-owners Jon Knight & Charlie Wood were in attendance shaking hands, working in the kitchen, delivering food, and asking for feedback. The only thing we didn’t see them do was sit down to take a break.
Grand Junction Brewing opened by offering their Fab 5 House Beers: 1520 (Hefeweizen), Squirrel Stampede (Nut Brown Ale), The Mulligan (Scottish-Style Ale), Imperfect Backside (Oatmeal Stout), and One With Nature (American-style IPA).
When tasting the 1520, a Bavarian-style ale, you’ll pick up a hint of banana in both aroma and taste. As GJB’s menu indicates, the Squirrel Stampede shares a characteristic with the brewer that makes it, well, subtle nuttiness. The Mulligan is incredibly crisp and pairs nicely with their pretzel breadsticks, which are offered with a slightly spicy cheese dip made with Knight’s personal recipe. For those who enjoy smooth, darker beers – the Imperfect Backside won’t disappoint. One With Nature delivers the hops, with a touch of caramel, that will please the palate of any IPA fan.
In addition to their house beers, GJB will also be offering three guest taps. For their opening, patrons got to enjoy Bier Belgian Blonde and Bier Belgian Dubbel, both from Bier Brewery in Indianapolis, along with Ruby Bloom Amber from Bloomington Brewing Company.
With an inviting pub atmosphere, a separate room for family dining, and a variety of delicious house beers that can be enjoyed on-site or taken home in growlers, Grand Junction Brewing is on the right track – and their grand opening was a grand success.
