Plans for the Flat 12 Bierworks taproom and brewery in Jeffersonville are moving forward after getting the approval from state officials, the Indianapolis-based craft brewer announced on its website Wednesday.
Work this summer is expected to transform a portion of the building at 130 W. Riverside Drive that Flat 12 is leasing.
“The myriad utility requirements, interior drawings and other details have been identified and finalized. That’s the behind-the-scenes stuff. You should begin to see the visible changes beginning to take place that will transform the building into a taproom and brewery,” according to the post from Bob Weaver, the company’s vice president of marketing.
Weaver didn’t specify its anticipated opening date and messages left with the company weren’t immediately returned.
The taproom will spotlight the core variety of Flat 12 beers, including Upside Down Blonde, Pogue’s Run Porter, Flat 12 Amber, Walkabout Pale Ale and Half Cycle IPA, as well as seasonal and other specialty brews.
The other portion of the building is a Mediterranean restaurant called Olive Leaf Bistro, which opened last month in conjunction with the opening of the nearby ramp to the Big Four pedestrian and bicycling bridge.
The Germanic “Bierwerks” name pays homage to the German cultural influence of Indianapolis’ historic Holy Cross neighborhood.
The name Flat 12 is derived from the flathead 12-cylinder engine that company officials say is emblematic of Indianapolis’ rise in the automotive manufacturing industry and motor sports.
