Drewrys Ltd USA made an announcement on Thursday that it will be renovating the former Inwoods Department Store building at 425 S. Michigan Street in downtown South Bend as its new headquarters.   What does this mean?  After forty-two years since the last bottle was sold in South Bend, Drewy’s Brewing Company is making a triumphant return.

The grand opening is tentatively scheduled for April of 2015 with plans to produce around 100,000 barrels per year.

Drewry’s closed in South Bend in 1972 after it was acquired by the G. Heileman Brewing Company. It was only just recently brought back to life last year by a group of regional business people from the Chicago and South Bend areas.  The new company plans to ultimately move all brewing to the renovated South Bend location. The 35,000 square foot, three-story facility will not only be home to Drewrys’ brewing facilities, but will also include a tasting room and café, along with the Drewrys Beer Museum. It’s expected to create up to 125 new job openings.

Did you know that Drewrys Big Gothic “D” logo was created by a high school student who worked in their Order Dept. (parttime in Art Dept.) in South Bend in the early 1960’s? And, she still has one of the original beer cans with the new “D” logo!
