The day before their two-year anniversary showdown, Scarlet Lane Brewing Co. hosted the May installment of the First Friday gathering for Legion of Ale Drinkers members. This was only my second time attending the Legion gathering, and it was vastly different than what I experienced last month. The April meeting for Legion members combined with the release of Laughing Water, and, as I wrote last month, the tap room was PACKED! As much as I loved to see Scarlet Lane packed full of patrons, I was looking forward to the relaxed and comfortably crowded tap room I know and love at Scarlet Lane. Fortunately for me, that is what I got at the May event.

I arrived late – about 6:30 p.m., Scarlet Lane closes at 8 p.m. – to a comfortably full tap room. Once everyone managed to get over the size of my Great Dane, I was able to snag a seat at the bar (obviously the best place to sit when you are alone) and survey the crowd. More than half of the people in the room and everyone that was sitting at the bar were drinking from Legion member glasses. This is what I was seeking in the gathering.

I spent the next 90 minutes chatting with the staff and other Legion members in a relaxed atmosphere while enjoying a couple of delicious pints of Dorian Stout (oatmeal). The other Legion members and I were able to get to know each other and get a preview of the draft menu for the two-year anniversary showdown – which I heard were awesome.

If you’ve never been to Scarlet Lane, I highly recommend you drive to McCordsville, Indiana, grab a chair at the bar, and enjoy one of their delicious offerings. After a few visits (it only took me two), you may just find yourself ready to become a part of the Legion of Ale Drinkers. Moreover, if you are a member of the Tasting Society Marketplace, you can even get $10 off the Legion membership!
