WATERBURY Five lawmakers broke out of their Statehouse committee room Thursday for a Heady Topper run.
But they didn’t actually get a taste of the famous Vermont beer. And no one walked out with a case of silver cans.
The members of the House General, Housing and Military Affairs Committee — which handles alcohol-related issues in Montpelier — spent the morning on a field trip in Waterbury, including about 45 minutes at the Alchemist.
The highly popular brewery and cannery has been closed to the public for more than one year, but the owners Jen and John Kimmich made an exception for the group Thursday morning.
As they stood in the shuttered retail shop and walked through the silver barrels in the brewery and cannery, the conversation was more about policy and business than hops.
