A Columbus craft brewery has become the area’s first to distribute its beer in cans.

The first can of beer rolled off the assembly line at 450 North Brewing Co. this fall. In its first two years of operation, 450 North customers could order its brews on tap by the pint or in 64-ounce, take-home growlers at the restaurant at 8111 E. County Road 450 N. between Columbus and Hope.

But now, four varieties of the company’s beer – Scarecrow India Pale Ale, Copperhead Amber Ale, Honey Kölsch and Iron Man – are for sale in four-packs of 16-ounce cans.

“This is a measure of their success, certainly,” said Lee Smith, Brewers Guild of Indiana executive director. “It’s a big step for them.”
