The 18th Street Brewery, already a well-known presence in the Miller section of Gary, plans to expand operations to downtown Hammond.
“We are definitely in full support of them coming to the city of Hammond,” said Economic Development Director Africa K. Tarver. “We’re very excited.”
The company plans to rehabilitate an old warehouse at the corner of Oakley Avenue and Douglas Street into an 18th Street production facility. In phase one of the development, the company plans to renovate a 16,000-square-foot area of the 32,000-square-foot building into a production area for brewing beer, packaging and a small tasting room.
The company also plans to have a retail area where it will sell the craft beers produced on site along with other merchandise.
