In Paste Magazine’s recent ranking of the best pale ales in America, Sun King’s Osiris (32nd) and both Three Floyds’ Zombie Dust (25th) and Alpha King (8th) cracked the top 50, a big achievement for one beer from Indiana let alone three.
This sort of national recognition is nothing new for Sun King or Three Floyds, whose beers have won local and national awards across all spectrums for many years. It does speak volumes to the quality of all three beers and how they stack up to their national counterparts, as the three Indiana listings tie Illinois for the most from one state in the Midwest. Three Floyds was the only Midwest brewery to have two beers crack the top 50, with Alpha King being the only beer from the region in the top 10.
Heavy hitting beer states like California dominated the top 50, but one must wonder if their sheer brewer-per-capita numbers had a hand in that. Either way, the recognition of two of Indiana’s largest breweries on a national level will go a long way towards showing the country there’s more here than just cornfields and basketball hoops.
