Wedding Season: Beers I’d Serve at My Wedding

Wedding Season: Beers I’d Serve at My Wedding

Wedding season is upon us. This means plenty of dance battles, delicious stuffed chicken, and (in most cases) free drinks.  I’ve never been a hard liquor kind of guy, those drinks cost money (call me cheap, call me frugal).  I like to stick to beer, that’s just my choice. Considering I’ve been to two weddings already this year, and my own wedding coming up on October 1st, I have come up with a list of a few local beers  that I wouldn’t mind serving at my own wedding.

Upland Brewing – Champagne Velvet
Most of us at a wedding reception are stuck with domestic beers.  Nothing is wrong with drinking domestics at weddings, they’re light and don’t leave a bad taste in your mouth, but Champagne Velvet is a perfect substitute for your drab Bud Light. Champagne Velvet is a golden, old school pilsner that leaves you light and airy and is perfect to pair with your sick dance moves.

Founders Brewing – Mosaic Promise
I may be a little one-sided on this choice, and this isn’t exactly a local beer, but it is easy to find in Indiana and is one of my favorite beer this year by far. This single hop Pale Ale (using only mosaic hops) is light in color and extremely aromatic in flavor, leaving crisp floral notes behind. If I somehow couldn’t serve this at my wedding, I’d at least sneak a six pack into the reception.

Oaken Barrel – Razz Wheat
Before you think fruit beers are only for the wimps, this raspberry ale is bold in flavor with raspberry notes at the finale. This drink may seem like a light drink, but it is far from it, packing in 5% ABV. Another inside note, it is also very fun to mix this beer with light IPA’s to get the best of both worlds. Don’t knock it til you try it!

Black Acre Brewing – Natural Liberty
What else really screams America than an American Pale Lager named Natural Liberty? Budweiser has nothing on this beer. (Yes, I’m taking shots at Budweiser.) This delightfully hopped lager is smooth in taste with 35 IBUs. It’s certainly light enough to enjoy at an indoor or outdoor reception.

Redemption Alewerks – Deliverance IPA
If you’re an old-school guy like me and enjoy any type of bitterness at any time, this classic American IPA will serve you right. An awesome trio of Columbus, Willamette, and Cascade hops will make your taste buds jump for joy. At 72 IBUs this is a great IPA I could enjoy before or after the wedding.
