By Cory Huffman for Indiana On Tap

Let me preface this article first by exclaiming from the highest figurative mountaintop that I love my wife. I swear I married her for much more than who her friends are. So, with that all cleared up, I am not sorry that one of her very best friends just happens to be Kaitlyn Hendricks, Quality Control/Public Relations at Three Floyds. More importantly though, under the quality control umbrella she is the sensory analyst and is responsible for running the Sensory Program. In other words, she has a job all of us beer nerds would absolutely salivate over…official taste tester. *pause for a collective dramatic sigh*

Recently I had the pleasure of corresponding with Kaitlyn to get the low down on the exciting new South Shore Brewery Trail app. The idea was born at a regional Indiana Brewer’s Guild meeting.

“About two years ago we started having Regional Indiana Brewers Guild Meetings. Basically what we wanted to do was start something that would promote camaraderie and help create more working relationships among breweries and then hopefully down the road find ways to work together that would benefit everyone, and that’s what we did!” She explained.

The app includes all the breweries in Lake, Porter, and LaPorte Counties. Pending the success of the app, we could potentially see others like it in the near future that include different parts of the Hoosier State.

Here are some of the awesome features of the South Shore Brewery Trail app:

  • When you pull up the featured breweries page, its lists the breweries in order of what is closest to you AND the exact mileage to that brewery.
  • Push notifications of special tapping’s, events, and bottle releases.
  • One click directions to the brewery of your choosing.
  • An events page of local beer happenings.

“It’s an exciting time to be brewing beer in Indiana. There are so many different beers, different personalities and ways to show your artistic side and craft in this industry. The awesome thing about this app is you get to see all of those differences, but it still promotes drinking local craft beer any way you roll it.”

You can download the app by searching South Shore Brewery Trail

Go ahead and do that now.

Until next time, this is where I leave you.
