The inaugural 219 Day in Hammond, IN is sure to be a one-of-a-kind event.

Scheduled for February 19th, 219 Day is going to be a celebration of everything we love about the Region (NWI.com’s Joseph S. Pete says it will be “Region as heck”).

219 Day, to be held at the Hammond Civic Center is much more than a beer festival. Think of it more as a regional block party: a giant (Region) rat piñata, fireworks, a fire pit, local food as well as White Castle sliders (a given), live music, stand up comedy, and beer from 18th Street Brewery, 3 Floyds Brewing, Wildrose Brewing, and Byway Brewing.

In a news release announcing the festival, Hammond officials said, “Hear ye. Hear ye. Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. takes great pleasure in announcing that the City of Hammond shall declare Friday, Feb. 19, 2016 as ‘219 Day’ the most exalted of all Region Holidays, aside from Black Wednesday.”

The event will run at the Hammond Civic Center from 5:00 – 10:00pm, and will also the South Shore Roller Girls, a cornhole (it’s cornhole, not “bean bag”) and shuffle board tournament, a photo booth, and the Illiana Brew Bus Tour. Beer will be available for purchase for $5.
