Happy 2nd Birthday Books & Brews! Here’s 5 Reasons Why You Rock

Last Saturday, Books & Brews celebrated their 2nd birthday by throwing a huge party! Entering the party, the place was packed. The bookstore was filled with children of all ages and their parents celebrating B&B turning two. With the tournament games playing in the background, live music could be heard throughout the place. I was able to grab a beer, slice of cake, and a seat to enjoy the festivities and cook up some reasons with Books & Brews is awesome.

1) Books & Brews was started up by Jason Wuerfel. When he says the place is a local place, he’s not kidding. From the food, to the beer, live music, and mugs for the mug club – everything is local. The hops are from local farms, the meat is supplied by the Smoking Goose, the potato chips are made by Broad Ripple Chip Company, and the mugs are made by a local artist (who has made roughly 500 mugs for B&B!). Now that’s my kind of pub.

2) The atmosphere is downright amazing. You are surrounded by hundreds of books and a variety of thoughtfully crafted beer. What’s not to love about that? Even the taps are in the shape of books. And if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, the food items on the menu and all the beers are given literary names.

3) Books & Brews has a delicious wide range of beers so you won’t ever be bored with your choices. Some of my favorites are Charlie and the Chocolate Stout, Hops Cradle DIPA, Dubbeldore’s Ale, Portrait of the Stout as a Young Man, and The Three Hopsketeers. Now, I know what you’re thinking: did she really drink all those? And the answer is, maybe. Just kidding. My fiancé was overjoyed to help me sip on a few brews. But let me tell you my top three:

  • Charlie and the Chocolate Stout is a delicious blend of coffee and chocolate that it truly takes you back to watching Augustus Gloop drink the chocolate fountain in Willy Wonka’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
  • Dubbeldore’s Ale reminded me of summer when I drank it, nice crisp, clean and refreshing.
  • The Three Hopsketeers. See, I’m a porter and stout fan, but you’ll be very surprised to know that my absolute favorite beer at Books & Brews is this hoppy IPA. I took my first sip and my eyes lit up. My fiancé knew it must have been good by my facial expression that he felt the need to have a sip himself, and his reaction was the same as mine. I can’t put into words how delightful this brew is, so please go check it out yourself.
4) The support of local musicians! Every Friday and Saturday night, you can catch a local artist singing a few tunes.

5) Did I mention the beer was awesome? Every Friday, they tap a special beer. They are currently releasing some special bottle releases that even include some bourbon barrel aged brews. Their list is constantly changing. Even the manager, Molly, released her very own Dr. Barrel and Mr. Barleywine on Saturday that was a huge hit! With the selection always changing, I encourage you to check out the place and try a few books…I mean brews for yourself!

The birthday party was a blast! If you weren’t in attendance, you truly missed out on a great celebration. But feel free to celebrate any day of the week with a good book and an even better beer.
