The former location of local favorite Harrison Landing will now be the home of New Paradigm Brewing Co.

First came Mad Anthony’s, which didn’t brew in Elkhart but acted like a brewpub until it closed.

Then came Iechyd Da Brewing, which has been wildly successful for just over a year.

Elkhart’s second brewery will eventually be called New Paradigm Brewing Co. at Harrison Landing. New owners take over Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the beloved Harrison Landing, 600 S. Main St.

Brandon Stanley said it may be the first of the year or even February until New Paradigm beers are on tap for purchase, but some samples will be available Tuesday and Wednesday, which is the date for the next ArtWalk.

Stanley and three partners signed the paperwork Wednesday, Sept. 25, to take over Harrison’s operations from Pat Whisler and Bill Lavery. Now comes getting paperwork done to allow brewing and transfer licenses. “Hopefully we don’t run into any hiccups with that and we can get this going as quickly as possible,” he said.

Harrison Landing has been a popular downtown bar. In 2009, it got a makeover. And now it’ll see more craft beer and a menu makeover. “We’ve got a great lineup of beers coming,” Stanley said.

The owners, which also include Scott Gruver, Bob Newman and Josh Hibshman, plan to do a lot of Belgian styles and stouts, but will have pale ales and IPAs. “That is what sells after all,” Stanley said.

They also plan to revamp the menu, making it as fresh and local as possible. Stanley said they want to “try to get the food back up where it needs to be rather than bar food. We want to be known as a little more than that.”

The four met and became friends at Harrison. And now it’ll be theirs. “It’s a beloved location. Everyone knows it,” he said.

Good luck, gentleman. We’ll be watching anxiously as you bring something new.
