07 Jun A Saturday Craft Beer Double Dip – Hogstock 2022 and Kentucky Craft Bash
by Mark E. Lasbury for Indiana On Tap
This coming Saturday is going to be a fun one for Walter and I. This will be our second straight year for a great double dip of events. On June 11 we’ll finish the day in Columbus at Hog Molly Brewing and their HogStock 2022 concert festival, and that’s after we hit the Kentucky Craft Bash in Louisville. The timing is great, as the Craft Bash is from noon to 5pm, and Hogstock runs from 3pm to 11pm. Let’s take them in chronological order:
The KY Craft Bash is a festival put on by the brewers (in the form of their state guild) and has a special kind of feel to it. The breweries go all out to bring special beers and everyone is especially happy to be there – running around from booth to booth, and taking more time to talk to attendees. Usually, you have to have a VIP ticket to get the super special beers, but the Craft Bash arranges it so most of the breweries have a rare or new beer that they tap at different times during the festival – everyone gets to have all the beers. Of course, your VIP ticket does still get you an extra hour of sampling, and since they limit VIP to 500 people, the lines will be non-existent! Get your tickets here.
There will be more than 60 breweries doing unlimited samples, including many establishments that you never get in Indiana. This is great, because the festival itself is just 100 ft. or so inside Kentucky – you get to sample the entire state while barely even needing to cross the bridge. The site is once again Louisville’s Waterfront Park, giving you breezes from off the river, and an easy jump on to the highway to get back to Indiana – good logistics for our double on the day.
Hogstock 2022 at Hog Molly Brewing is just an hour north of Louisville, so if people from Kentucky wanted to, they could do the same double as Walter and I. Hogstock is a live music and craft beer event, and it benefits the Columbus Area Arts Council. It takes place at the brewery, just off both I-65 and US-31, so it’s easy to get to whether you’re coming from the north or the south.
Martha, Lou, and the whole Hog Molly family go all out for this day, with plenty of Hog Molly beer on hand, food trucks for nourishment, free water bottles to help you stay hydrated, and they welcome lawn chairs and canopy tents (just don’t block other peoples’ views). Everyone gets wristbanded for the event (taproom opens at noon, but everyone needs an event ticket after 2pm), so your wristband gets you in and out privileges.
The music lineup is great, with no fewer than seven different bands on the big stage. There is very little down time between acts, and that offer you just enough of a break to get some food from one of the three food trucks or grab another beer. Get your tickets now (here) to save some cash, or buy them at the gate for just $25. This is a great day of music and beer. If you haven’t been to Hog Molly yet, this is the perfect opportunity.
Everyone is welcome to do a double event day like Walter and I, but it’s perfectly fine if you pick one or the other. And if you see us at any point that day – remind me to put on more sunscreen.
