Big change is coming to the 2016 Indiana State Fair: beer and wine will now be available at more events during the 17-day fair.
The Times of Northwest Indiana reported fairgoers will be able to purchase beer, wine, and spirits during the Free Stage concerts and only beer and wine during non-student events (monster truck, destruction derby, etc.) at the Hoosier Lottery Grandstand.
Alcohol sales made their return to the Indiana State Fair after a 67-year ban in 2014. TheIndiana Beer and Wine Exhibition has showcased Indiana craft beer and wine for the last two years.
The exhibition has been a success – nearly 50,000 visitors in each of its first two years – and last year, for the first time, fairgoers were allowed to purchase alcohol at four separate events at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
Lesley Gordon, State Fair spokeswoman, told the NW Times that customer demand played into the State Fair adding alcohol sales to additional events this year.
The Indiana State Fair will run from August 5-21. You will be able to visit the Beer and Wine Exhibition during that time, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. each day.
