05 Jan Pokro Brewing’s New Years Day Breakfast The Perfect Cure For The After-Party Daze
Pokro Brewing in Griffith had a great morning to combat that horrible feeling when you roll out of bed after a long night of NYE celebration. Starting at 9AM on New Year’s Day Pokro served breakfast to those of us who truly needed some sustenance.
Surprisingly the breakfast burritos filled with eggs, onions, and green peppers paired nicely with my flight. The corned beef hash was another option that filled your gut with the heavy hangover food it craved. I played it safe for AM drinking and went with beers that had coffee or malty undertones. The best being the Black Tooth Grin, a Baltic porter that had just that.
I was also pleasantly surprised that the Jacob Marley-Wine Christmas Ale was smooth (and not too boozey) enough to drink for breakfast. I’m glad I saved the Sea Witch, a bold oatmeal stout, for last since the strong roasted malt flavor took over and reminded me that it was only in fact 11AM.
Although I felt a little odd sitting at the rustic wood tables with my Uno cards and beer flight while most others were still passed out, I was happy to have spent my holiday with Pokro. It’s nice having a local place you can stroll up to in your pjs and have a beer without being judged.
The beers are great, food is quality, and people make your experience that much better.
Happy New Year!
