01 Mar Three Floyds & TwoDEEP find themselves on RateBeer’s annual best brewery lists
It’s that time of year again, as RateBeer.com has released their
annual beers awards and as usual, Three Floyds Brewing Company took home lots of them.RateBeer started the annual awards back in 2002 and after not announcing any winners in 2004 and 2005, they have done it yearly since 2006. Each year they compile roughly 10 different awards list, with the winners being based on the reviews they received throughout the year and consideration on how they finished the previous year. This year, RateBeer had seven beer or brewery awards, two retailer awards, and one for the top reviews on the site.
Three Floyds is definitely no stranger to the winner’s circle. They ranked No. 1 in Rate Beer’s Top 100 Brewers list in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. That’s pretty damn impressive for a brewery based out of small town Indiana.
This year, though, they finished No. 4. In front of them stood Hill Farmstead Brewery (No. 1, Greensboro, Vermont), AleSmith Brewing Co. (No. 2, San Diego, California), and Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen (No. 3, Beersel, Belgium). However, Three Floyds was the only Indiana-based brewery to make the top 100.
It should come as no surprise that the No. 4 brewery in the world was also named the top brewer in the state of Indiana. In the Top Beers, Brewers, New Brewers by Subregion award list, Three Floyds won the state award and their Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout won top beer in Indiana. TwoDEEP Brewing Company won top new brewer.
In The Best Beers By Style Category section, Zombie Dust took home gold in the American Amber/Pale category, while Alpha King took home bronze in the same category. Gumballhead won silver in the Wheat category.
To round out the awards, two of Three Floyds brand new beers made the top 50 in The World’s Top New Beer Release list. Amber Smashed Face and Wigsplitter made the top 0.0016 percent as the 50 beers were chosen from a pool of 60,000 new beers
Everyone from Indiana knows Three Floyds makes great beer and it’s amazing to see their influence permeate beyond the state’s borders. As the craft beer scene grows in Indiana, hopefully other breweries will find their names among the best in the world, but having No. 4 in our backyard is good enough for now.
