MUNCIE – A brew pub and restaurant planned for the town of Daleville has won approval for its liquor permit.

“We’re very excited about it,” said Gabriel Soukup, owner of Happy Brewing Company, who said he intends to launch a brewery and brew pub and restaurant in a former industrial building at Interstate 69 and Ind. 67. The building, at 15660 W. Commerce Road, is behind a Wendy’s restaurant.

The Delaware County Alcoholic Beverage Commission on Thursday approved Soukup’s request for a beer and wine retailer/restaurant permit for the brewery and brew pub.

Soukup‘s previous businesses include Two Men and a Truck, a movers franchise located in Daleville, and Happy Movers. He currently owns Happy Truck Wash at the location.

Soukup said he intends to convert a portion of the property for microbrew production and an adjacent space in the building for a brew pub restaurant.

“We want to compete with Sun King,” Soukup said, referring to an Indianapolis-based craft brewery.

Happy Brewing will produce kegs and growlers — large bottles — of beer, he said. Non-alcoholic beverages are also planned.

“I’m really excited about brewing root beer and ginger beer,” Soukup added, noting that specially-made root beer has been an overlooked craft in Indiana.

Soukup said he plans to begin operations later this year.

Also in Thursday’s ABC board meeting, the board approved liquor license renewals for several businesses with no violations in the past year, including Chili’s, Casa del Sol, 69 Liquors and others.

The board also approved a renewed permit for Speedway at Tillotson and Jackson, where an employee sold beer to a customer on Christmas Day, 2013, against Indiana liquor law. The company disciplined the employee and reinforced laws during training sessions.
