Get more in touch with your beer with these trusty resources!

Although beer has been around forever, all the fancy technology surrounding the industry hasn’t. In fact, you wouldn’t even be able to read this article without your fancy Interweb contraption.  From creeping on your friends to finding your dang keys, there’s an app for just about everything. Here are some of my most commonly used apps/technologies/resources that every craft beer lover can utilize.

Untappd – This is the social media of beer. You simply make a profile and check in your beers. There’s a newsfeed where you can see what your friends are drinking, recommendation tabs based on your ratings, and badges that keep you motivated to continually use the app (as if you needed any more incentive to drink). My favorite part is the bookmarks and wish lists tabs. I try so many great beers and there’s no possible way of remembering them all. Using this app allows me to pinpoint my favorites for future recall. I also like the “Find It” feature you can utilize when looking for a particular brew.

Drizly – I’m so grateful that this service was brought to Indianapolis. Powered through Big Red Liquors, Drizly is a service that delivers alcohol right to your doorstep. Seems like a good idea anyone could have thought of, right? What really impressed me is the QUALITY of this service. The selection is great, prices are incredibly reasonable, you can track exactly where your order is after placing it, and your beverages are delivered to your door COLD. Yep. Handed directly to you from a friendly representative of Big Red in an insulated bag. Sometimes all it takes is a solid idea, but this service is executed so incredibly well that it’s bound to be a staple in the Indianapolis market.

Podcasts – If you Google “craft beer podcasts” you can find just about anything. If you feel weird drinking alone, there are plenty that do tasting reviews of every type of style known to man. All you need to do is read which one, buy the beer, and enjoy the conversation streaming through the speakers. If you’re trying to open your own brewery, there are several that focus on the business-side of operations and get first hand interviews from some of the best in the business. (Hey – we launched a podcast yesterday!)

Bottoms Up – This Indianapolis-based business specializing in a unique draft system is something you really need to see in person. I could tell you that it fills the glass from the bottom, but that doesn’t do the innovation and craftsmanship justice. You’ll have to come see for yourself at one of the Indiana On Tap Tasting Society Events to truly appreciate this art.

These are some of the few things I utilize on a regular basis. Feel free to add me on Untappd and share with me what other new technologies are coming through the pipeline. Always looking for new ways to procrastinate.

Cheers,

Traxler
