Whitestown Brew Fest and Homebrew Competition Returns September 15th

Prize Money Offered for Top Three Home Brewers in 2018

Whitestown, IN – The 4th Annual Whitestown Brew Fest returns to the Whitestown Municipal Complex (6210 Veterans Drive) on Saturday, Sept. 15th, 2018, from 1:00pm to 4:30pm. Marked as a must attend event because of its wildly successful homebrew competition and its stellar lineup of local and regional breweries, this year’s event will build on previous successes as well as introduce new features

The homebrew competition for 2018 will include prize money for the first time. Crowd vote will again determine the top three places, with those home brewers being awarded $1000, $350, and $150 in Visa gift cards. The first place winner will also have the opportunity to design and brew a beer with Moontown Brewing on the 15 barrel system located at their brewpub in Whitestown. Thirty contestants will be vying for the prizes, including returning winners from past years and the top ten finishers in pre-qualification judging in mid-June. The remaining finalists will be selected via a lottery drawing after the pre-qualification judging.

Pre-qualification judging will take place on June 16th at Moontown Brewing. Home brewers interested in participating in pre-qualification should deliver 24 oz. of a single beer (no sours, meads, or ciders) to Moontown Brewing between June 8th and 11:00am on June 16th. Five judges will rate beers based on flavor and stated style, although adherence to BJCP style guide is not necessary.

The top ten rated beers will garner their brewers a place in the finals at the Whitestown Brew Fest on Sept. 15th, and those brewers not in the top ten will automatically be entered in the lottery for the remaining finalists position. Alternatively, home brewers can enter the lottery without going through pre-qualification judging. Pre-registration is required for either the lottery or pre-qualification judging; see the homebrew competition page at the Whitestown Brew Fest website for the registration form and more information.

The thirty finalist home brewers will join two dozen area breweries that will be pouring samples at the Whitestown Brew Fest on September 15th. Brewery personnel will be on hand to talk beer, and the breweries will be accompanied by local wineries, giving those who like the juice of the grape options for the afternoon. Along with all of this, food trucks and live music from The Flying Toasters and others will add to the festive atmosphere.

Returning for the second year in 2018 is a separate event held the night before Whitestown Brew Fest. Starting at 5:00pm on September 14th, the Boone Flavor Fest is family-friendly and will feature local food, drink and music, including the Flying Toasters. Admittance is only $5 for individuals over 10 years of age, and tickets are purchased at the gate.

Please join more than a thousand of your new and old friends in Whitestown on September 15th, and do your part in crowning the 2018 homebrew competition winner. With significant money on the line this year, the beers are sure to be top-notch. VIP entrance will be at noon, with GA ticket holders able to enter at 1:00.
