The craft beer industry in Indiana continues to expand, and no where is that evident more than in the northwest part of the state, where it was announced this week that a third brewery will be opening in Goshen, Ind.

Thomas Stieglitz Brewing will open in the Goshen Innovation Center Building at 211 N. Fifth St., though co-owners Jeff and Margaret Thomas and Gary and Laura Stieglitz do not have a hard deadline set for an opening, Roger Schneider reports for Goshen News.

“Believe it or not,” Gary tells Schneider, “nine or 10 years ago my wife brought me a brewing kit and it has spun off from there.”

Gary is carrying on the tradition of brewing in his family, passed down to him by his grandfather.

Thomas Stieglitz Brewing will be a production brewery and a tasting room, both serving pints and filling growlers for patrons. The original parking lot will be transformed into a beer garden, and they hope to have five hourse beers and five seasonals on tap regularly.

“We do the standard stuff, the pale ales, the ambers and stouts,” Thomas says. “We do a saison with rosemary. We have a porter that we add chipotle peppers and bacon to. So that is our pig and pepper porter. It’s a really good beer.”

Thomas Stieglitz will be the third brewery in Goshen, following Back Alley Brewery and Goshen Brewing Co., the latter of which had an impressive showing at this year’s South Bend Brew Fest. Goshen’s population of approx. 32,000 will surely welcome to addition of another brewery, saving them a trip out of town and into South Bend or the surrounding towns just for more options.

The brewery will be a production brewery, with the purpose of getting Thomas Stieglitz beer out to the public, and will have take-out food options from local restaurants, and the owners are working on establishing relationships with local food trucks, always popular options are craft breweries.
