This Week On Tap: Fountain Square’s Hop Your Face Imperial IPA

For This Week on Tap I reviewed Fountain Square Brewing’s Hop Your Face Imperial IPA.  I purchased a bottle from a local liquor store off of the shelf.  It is a liquor store that I trust to have solid and reasonably fresh offerings.  I have been interested in this beer Fountain Square released it and was happy to find a few bottles.

I poured a chilled bottle of Hop Your Face into a room temp tulip glass.  It poured clear with a medium orange hue and very little head.  There was quite a bit of citrus in the nose with little to no sweetness from the malt. Because of the nose I expected this to drink more like a hop forward IPA than a more balanced imperial IPA.  I was wrong.  The flavor contained bitter piney citrus notes with a mild sweet malty finish.  The mouth feel was smooth and enjoyable to the palate.  I would recommend this beer to anyone that enjoys a hoppy brew.

Hop Your Face has been out for a little while, but has thus far retained its hoppiness on the shelf.  I suggest if you find one you buy it before it is too late.  We all know that there are places that will continue to sell beers after their prime so tread with caution.  That being said, I have found many gems in places I would have never expected to find them.  Every once in a while it is worth taking a risk just as long as you know your beer or have someone with you that does.  You never know, you might just find your new favorite hidey hole.  Keep drinking great beer and talking about it, you know I will!
