Purdue Fans Give South End Zone High Marks

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – It was the first weekend Purdue fans could enjoy the newly constructed south end zone and officials say it was a hit.  “From my vantage point up at the press box, it looked like it was a steady stream from the time it opened until the time it closed,” said Purdue Associate Athletics Director Tom Schott.  For the first time at Ross-Ade, season ticket holders and students with VIP tickets could purchase beer and wine for $5 a glass.

One of the beer options was from People’s Brewing Company, something Schott said was a big hit with fans.  “Certainly, we’re all about working with our community and supporting our community, just as they support us,” said Schott. “So, I’m glad that we have that options to give to our fans.”

Schott said while they received mostly positive feedback about the patio, the little negative feedback they did receive dealt with wait times.  “Stories we heard, maybe 6, 7 or 8 minutes in the beverage lines. It seems reasonable, but maybe if you’re really thirsty that is a bit long. We’re going to review prior to Saturday’s game and see if those can become more efficient,” said Schott.  Schott said athletics officials will meet sometime this week to discuss ways to improve efficiency for future games. He said they’ll also be meeting with fans to see what they’d like to see in the end zone.  “We’re using this time, this season actually, to talk to fans, see what they’d like, any more permanent solution to the south end zone,” said Schott. “Once we gather all that, we do some surveys over the summer, we’ll turn that over to some design teams, architecture firms, that will give us their best shot at what we can do with that space.”

In the meantime, Schott said fans can expect the patio to stick around for at least the next two seasons.
