November 4th will bring us an IPA throw down at Mashcraft Brewing in Greenwood (1140 N. St. Rd. 135). The Halloween theme is carried into November as Mr. Wicked’s Hop Bonanza will take place from 1-4 pm in the Maschraft taproom. This is a ticketed event and the taproom will be closed to the general public during this period of time.

Sixteen IPAs from local and national craft breweries will be in a March Madness tournament style format, with judges in seclusion eliminating beers in head to head fashion. As those beers are eliminated from competition, they will be put on tap in the brewery for attendees to sample. One beer will be named the challenge champion and will then go tap as the victor.

General admission tickets allow a craft beer fan admission to the challenge and comes with five beer tasting tickets (4 oz) for eliminated beers and one ticket for a sample of the winning beer, with additional tasting tickets will be available for purchase. Sweet Sixteen tickets will afford the bearer a sample of every one of the sixteen competing beers. Both admission plans come with a commemorative Hop Bonanza tasting glass. Designated Driver tickets are just $5 and come with unlimited soft drinks. There will be food available from the award winning Beach Bum BBQ during the competition.

So far, the contestants include the flagship IPA from Mashcraft – the hometown favorite, as well as India Pale Ale offerings from Bare Hands Brewery, Bell’s Brewery, Central State Brewing, Daredevil Brewing, Fat Head’s Brewery from Ohio, Revolution Brewing from Chicago, and Round Town Brewery. Check back at Mashcraft’s page on Facebook as the final seven entrants are announced.

Tickets are available here.

Update: The competition entrants are complete – Rhinegeist Brewing, 18th Street Brewery, Flix Brewhouse, Bier Brewery, WarPigs Brewpub, Function Brewing, Dogfish Head brewing, and Short’s Brewing. Yep that’s seventeen, and Daredevil gets to have a second entrant as last year’s winner, so there will be a couple of bonus beers for everyone.
