Tis the season for unhealthy snacks, right? Well this is a recipe that adds two things guys love together: beer and bacon. This is a recipe I’ve borrowed from my sister. I’m not sure where she found it; heaven, I think. Ironically she doesn’t like beer (let alone dark beer) and doesn’t exactly crave bacon. Here’s the break down:
Ingredients
1 lb thick cut bacon (don’t get cheap bacon)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup beer for the bacon

An additional three pints of beer should be consumed while prepping/cooking/ and eating for good measure.

We usually use a stout; essentially the darker the better. I’ve used Dark Lord Imperial Stout by3 Floyd’s Brewing Co. as well as Deadeye Stout from Triton Brewing Company. I’ve tossing the idea of trying it with a vanilla porter but I’ve yet to do so. Here are the steps to make it

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 400
  2. Combine brown sugar and beer; whisk to form a syrup. Set aside
  3. Line baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire cooling rack on top. Lay bacon across rack. Overlap if needed.
  4. bake for 10 mins
  5. Take out of oven and coat the top with the syrup mixture with cooking paintbrush. You may need to whisk the syrup again before applying
  6. Bake for 10 mins, remove from oven and turn each bacon piece over. Coat in syrup and place back in oven for 10 mins
  7. Repeat this process until bacon is fairly crispy. I usually flip it 3-4 times
  8. Let cool for about an hour before eating

While I don’t know the exact calories involved I’d guess each piece of bacon to be about 100-150 calories. Most people eat a half a piece at time.

This recipe will serve about 4-10 people. Prost
