For fans of Indiana City Brewing Co. or those unfamiliar but curious, I have some good news. Although it is not how I’d initially imagined, one of Indy’s smallest breweries is expanding and will be making more beer very soon—much more beer. I got a chance to sit down with Ray Kamstra, the founder and head brewmaster of Indiana City about their recent growth.

“We are growing up not out,” Ray commented concerning the intricacies surrounding Indiana City’s additions. Recently the brewery added two new pieces of equipment allowing them to double their barrel output over the course of the year. These two pieces of equipment, a 10-barrel boil kettle, and a 15-barrel mash tun sit adjacent to their original set-up in the brewery, dwarfing the original 3.5 barrel system.

For those of you who are new to the craft beer terminology, a barrel of beer is equivalent to 31 gallons, or two kegs. Before adding these pieces, Indiana City was averaging an annual barrel output of around 700 barrels. With these new pieces in the mix, they are looking to double their barrel production to nearly 1,500 barrels a year. These additions will allow the brewery to brew their year-round beers (Tribute Pale Ale, Yacht Rock Wheat Ale, and Shadow Boxer Oatmeal Stout) more efficiently alongside their limited and special release beers.

Indiana City’s newest annual release will remain a secret, to be revealed at Indiana City’s three-year anniversary party coming up on May 28th in the brewery’s parking lot beginning at 2 p.m. The celebration will feature a plethora of entertainment options including bands, burlesque, food trucks, and of course all of the delicious Indiana City beer you can drink.

Don’t miss the opportunity to check out Indiana City and all of the delicious beer they provide to Indianapolis. I highly recommend the brewery to anyone looking for a fresh taste around the city.

Cheers!
