Hoosier Brew Documentary Screening at Scarlet Lane Brewing a Great Event for a Great Cause

By Kristina Traxler for Indiana On Tap

My typical weekly routine consists of me trolling through Facebook and the Indiana On Tap website to see what beer events are happening around the state. Luckily, last week I happened to stumble across the Hangin’ Tough Launch with Hoosier Brew Documentary happening at Scarlet Lane Brewing in collaboration with both Girls Pint Out and Broad Ripple Brewpub.

I know that title is a mouthful, so let me break it down:

-Hoosier Brew is an incredible documentary about the story of Indiana craft beer starting from pre-prohibition and finishing with ideas for the future. The film was jam-packed full of emotions, great stories, and Hoosier pride.

-Hangin’ Tough is an oat pale ale collaboration by Scarlet Lane and Broad Ripple Brewpub to commemorate Indiana’s own Rita Kohn. If you haven’t heard that name before, stop reading this and head straight to Google. Proceeds from this 22 oz citrus bomber go to benefit an upcoming production that Rita is putting together.

-Scarlet Lane was the gracious host of the event. This was my first adventure out to McCordsville, and it certainly won’t be the last.

-Broad Ripple Brewpub is the original Indiana brewpub that provided their fantastic beer cheese and pulled chicken for dinner.

For the mere price of $27, participants received a 22 oz bomber of Hangin’ Tough beer, a showing of Hoosier Brew, free popcorn, dinner from Broad Ripple Brewpub, AND a draft pint of your choice. I consider myself lucky in that there was a pint included with the ticket fee and Eirik Bloodaxe just so happened to be on tap. This is the Braggot beer that happens to sneak up on you with the smooth, blood orange taste and whooping 11% alcohol. This was my one and only beer for the night and the only beer I really needed.

For me, this was a great Hump Day event. Typically in the middle of the workweek I sit my butt on the couch, binge on Netflix, have a subpar meal, and maybe have a beer if something happens to be in the fridge. This event had awesome entertainment, a delicious meal, and fantastic beer all supporting great organizations (along with the incredible people that make them up).

If you haven’t been able to get your hands on a bomber of Hangin’ Tough, Broad Ripple Brewpub is having a tapping event on March 22nd from 6:00-9:00PM that will feature it with 20 oz pours for $4. You will not be disappointed.
