Crown Brewing is looking at bottling an IPA, or India Pale Ale, after finding success with its six packs of Bohemian Export Pilsner.

The craft brewery, which was founded in 2008 and long has sold its beers at local liquor stores in 22-ounce bombers, started canning for the first time in May.

“It’s a perfect summer beer,” Brewmaster Steve Mazylewski said. “It’s a 4.5 percent ABV lager that’s easy to drink. It’s selling really well.”

Using mobile canning equipment, Crown brewed about 165 cases of the Czech-style pilsner in May, enough to distribute across Northwest Indiana but not so much that it would sit on store shelves for too long and lose its freshness. The six packs are available at Cask and Cellar in Highland, Liquor Bucket in Schererville, St. John Wine and Liquor in St. John, Nicks Liquor in Merrillville, and Holiday in Cedar Lake.

Crown Brewing, which Chicago Magazine recently named one of five craft breweries worth driving to Indiana for, plans to do a similar run later this year of its North Pole Tree Frog Lactose IPA, a beer Mazylewski and his assistant had been perfecting with a home brewing kit.

“It’s for the hop lovers,” Mazylewski said. “It’s not bitter but hoppy. The non-fermentable lactose balances out the hops.”… CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL STORY AT NWI TIMES
