30 Oct Breaking: Chumley’s Reopening As Craft Beer Bar Village Tap Room November 1st
Carey Domres bought Chumley’s in Broad Ripple in early August 2015. Carey and his girlfriend, Dina Randall (how they met is another interesting story having to do with an unrequited love from high school) closed the bar for three weeks for an extensive cleaning and also to repair and replace equipment including most of the draft system. It was reopened August 19 with 24 new taps and a new menu featuring all fresh, housemade dishes. It is MUCH different than the old Chumley’s of the past few years. Due to a contractual agreement with the former owner, Carey is required to give back the Chumley’s name in November which turns out is a perfect reason to get out from under the negative image of the old Chumley’s brand.
On November 1, the bar and restaurant is being rebranded as Village Tap Room. Village Tap Room will feature 24 local craft beers on tap and a number of local craft beers in bottles/cans. We will also carry a couple of domestic beers. We have developed relationships with several Central Indiana breweries and will continue to partner with other Indiana breweries to help further the craft beer revolution in Indiana, which we stand behind 100%!
We will be crafting traditional and timeless cocktails using fresh juices vs. sugary flavored syrups and we will feature our own riffs on some of those traditional cocktail recipes. Our menu is being upgraded even further with some unique dishes and will include adding breakfast which will be served on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am-1 pm. Everything will remain housemade and fresh.
We are a locally owned and managed business, therefore, in addition to partnering with local craft breweries, we are partnering with other local businesses as well. Our cold-pressed juices come from The Garden Table (Broad Ripple), our popcorn comes from Just Pop In (Broad Ripple) and breakfast will be prepared by Jude Dowell who is the chef of Citizen Hash food truck. We are also looking at partnering with Harvest Café (Broad Ripple) for coffee and tea.
We feel as though we are filling a void in the Broad Ripple Avenue corridor by providing a locally owned and managed, comfortable place for folks who love good quality craft beer, cocktails and food to gather with their friends and family. To have great conversation and fellowship with other craft beer, cocktail and food lovers. We will continue to have TVs and show important sporting events. We will host several beer-themed events every month and we will also feature live music, such as acoustic solo or duo acts, jazz, reggae, etc. several nights per month, and families are welcome until 9 pm every day/night we are open.
