24 Jun American Idol Icon William Hung to Audition at ‘Jockey Box Hero’ Craft Beer Karaoke Event in Indianapolis on Saturday, August 12th
For Immediate Release: William Hung is coming out of retirement. The former icon of American Idol fame has announced his first trip to Indianapolis where he will once again be singing at an audition, but this time craft beer will also be a focus.
Hung has agreed to participate in Indiana On Tap’s Inaugural ‘Jockey Box Hero’ Craft Beer Tasting & Live Band Karaoke Competition on August 12th at The Hatch, the event co-host, in the Broad Ripple neighborhood of Indianapolis.
This much-anticipated outdoor event will feature approximately 20 Indianapolis-area breweries offering unlimited samples of their beer during the event—but there’s much more. The event will also play host to a large scale, live band karaoke competition on a 40’ state-of-the-art stage with contestants auditioning with songs they select.
Each contestant will be judged in an ‘American Idol style’ format by the celebrity cast from Indianapolis’s #1 Morning Show, WZPL’s Smiley Morning Show. By the end of the event, Indianapolis’s first ‘Jockey Box Hero’ will be crowned.
“This event will be unlike any event Indianapolis has ever seen,” noted Justin Knepp, Indiana On Tap Founder. “Like all of our events, the craft beer and unlimited samples from our local breweries will be exceptional, but the entertainment of the live band karaoke auditions and the VIP experience we also have planned will truly make it something the city will be talking about for a long time,” he added.
William Hung gained global fame in 2004 as a result of his off-key audition performance of Ricky Martin’s hit song “She Bangs” on the third season of one of television’s all-time most popular shows. And as fate would have it, it will be the same song he will audition with at the event.
“I am excited to visit Indianapolis for the first time to re-perform the song ‘She Bangs’ as part of my audition,” Hung shared with his announcement.
Hung will be making the long trip for the audition from his hometown of Los Angeles, California where he currently resides. He now focuses on public speaking to help people break their barriers by speaking out about their feelings, ideas, and visions. He does this by sharing how he overcame his own adversity with his American Idol journey.
So what is a jockey box, you might be asking? A jockey box is an insulated container that craft breweries often use to cool and serve beer to attendees at events. The event name is a play on words from the popular 1981 song “Juke Box Hero,” made famous by the band Foreigner.
