From beer to comics, 3 Floyds Brewing Co. is teaming up with Image Comics to bring a new comic series to market this May.

3 Floyds owner and brewmaster Nick Floyd will team up with Batman writer Brian Azzarello (Dark Knight III: The Master Race) to author the ALPHA KING series. Simon Bisley (Hellblazer, Lobo) and colorist Ryan Brown will do the artwork, while Jared K. Fletcher will handle the lettering.

Image Comics released information on the new series via a press release and provided a little detail on what to expect:

“ALPHA KING is set a long time ago in a metropolis far, far away (Hammond, Indiana), where Brewer and CiCi are producing a home-brew so distinct that it attracts the attention of a monstrous king and his horrid minions from another dimension. Swords are unsheathed, lines are crossed and sieges are laid for the rise of the Alpha King.

Featuring the insanity created by 3 Floyds—from their bottle washers to head brewers—this all-new series is a heavy metal mad mash-up through a futuristic medieval apocalypse. Zombies? Check. Barbarian hordes? Check. An Arctic Panzer Wolf? Sure, why not?”

Based on the press release, one would assume Floyd and Azzarello plan to include other 3 Floyds beers in the comic, which is a genius idea. Not only will it help with marketing the book – who hasn’t heard of Zombie Dust – but it will also help them to create additional series in the universe. 3 Floyds pushes the boundaries of beer creativity and winds up making some of the best beer in the world – ranked #4 brewery in the world by RateBeer.com – so one can only imagine the boundaries this comic series will push.

“This book is what happens when beer and comics conceive on a barstool,” said Azzarello in the release. “I’m a proud poppa.”

Teaming up with a company like Image Comics is a smart move as they are well known for publishing big time indie comics. Have you heard of The Walking Dead? Maybe the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? That’s the company ALPHA KING will share store shelves with.

ALPHA KING is scheduled to hit physical and digital shelves on Wednesday, May 4.
